SEO Benefits of Data Feed Optimization

What is Data Feed Optimization?
Data feed optimization is the process of modifying product feeds to rank highly in one box results and shopping comparison websites. Similar to an RSS feed, data feeds can be used in several different ways. Many companies make data feeds but SEO experts have paved the way for data feed optimization. A data feed for something like Google Base may contain things like product description, name, price, SKU, color etc. A huge advantage of data feed optimization is that onebox results for products appear before all organic search results. Additionally a well optimized feed takes much less time to see demonstrable results. Few SEO companies specialize solely in data feeds but there are a select few.

Once you have a completed data feed you need to submit it. Below is a list of places you can submit your product feed to. Google is probably the most popular resource simply due to the overwhelming amount of people who use it. Originally you could submit your products feeds to Google Base and they would be integrated into Froogle. Now Froogle and Google Base are one in the same. Google Base uploads its products to Google Shopping where regular users can shop, compare prices and find great deals.

  1. Optimizing your product feeds is very important. Last year I had a blog post specifically outlining the areas of the feed you can optimize. Unfortunately, I don’t think anyone saw it.

Most of it is still true today, except I think Google is giving more weight in their product search to seller ratings.
